Hi..

After lurking on here now for several months and learning lots of tips (thanks!), I wonder if anyone could help with a specific problem I have with the guns.

I bought 2 beuchat mundial 90 cm guns which constantly break the line.
Line break occurs at the shaft at the top hole (nearest trigger) where the line goes through.

I have used the line that came with the gun replaced it with 1.6mm kevlar line, still the same.

I bought a reel for one to try, thinking it was stretching at the end of its travel, still the same (although it has made re-rigging it easier as I have plenty of line available)

It seems as though damage to the line occurs on firing at some stage.

I am a total nube so any advice would be great, thaks in advance.

i have same problem with my seatec roller and i put nailon line of 1,5mm 5m for gun of 100cm and i have not problem more

A bigger loop where the line goes through the spear and make sure the line comes out on topside(from release mechanism) instead of underneath. This cuts down on chaffing the line.

I was going to recommend a bungee but I you've for a reel that is no longer possible with a reel. I know with the reel you have to rig it a certain way (with a slack ish loop) to allow the spear to leave the gun properly. But someone else will elaborate on that

Some folk do manage to use a bungee shock-absorber with a reel but you'll need to search the forum for details. Seems like it should be unnecessary though, as I would think you can set the reel drag to "give" a little line.

How strange, kevlar line too! I guess around that general area is where the spearline tends to wear the most. 1.6mm line is normal. It might be worth posting an image of breakage area. I wonder if the crimped loop is too short (or too long) and/or catching in the trigger mech. and/or muzzle. Alternatively, perhaps the line is being damaged during crimping or by sharp edges in/around the line hole, or on the wishbone (do you use a metal articulated wishbone with sharp edge by any chance?).

Rigging:
I assume, before you fitted the reel, your spearline was secured to the muzzle end of the gun. When loaded, the line went from the tail of the spear, above and to the side of the spear, along the barrel, out through the muzzle hole (assuming closed muzzle), back along under (or along side) the barrel to the line release and then back to the securing point at the muzzle? A muzzle bungee shock-absorber with a swivel clip might help.

Omer "Line Separator"
Omersub, Italy offer an accessory they call a "line separator": a shaped piece of wire that fits through the rear spearline hole & provides a loop for the spearline to be attached to. Looks like it might be just the thing to fix your problem (could probably make your own with a big paper-clip).

Omersub: Omersub website
Omersub Marco Bardi catalog: Omer Accessories by Marco Bardi 2012 , part number 1147, it is called a "Line Separator" and
"solves the problem of shooting line abrasion where in contact with the wishbone"

[BTW Good to see Marco Bardi has at last seen the light and is guiding the Med. spearos to use soft, inexpensive Dyneema wishbones - just as the SA spearos have used for decades ;). Nice line of Omer accessories for Dyneema wishbones - a bit lighter than RobAllen equivalents, e.g. 1.6mm vs. 1.8/1.9mm wishbone cord, for the slimmer European spears. I may get some.]
