I wasn't that homesick before, but after Crusty's little speech it's kicking in.

Australia day - beers the night before, get up late, wander down to the harbour to watch the ferries race, wander around Sydney on a leisurely pub crawl, head to your mate's for a barby and listen to the Triple J hottest 100 countdown. Couple of steak sambo's later the cricket bat and the tennis ball (with electrical tape on one side for swing bowling) get pulled out as you try to knock the ball out of the MCG (transl: back yard). Later on someone's drunk uncle pulls the plastic sheeting out of the garage, some dishwashing liquid and a hose, and you've got a home made slippery slide.

Reheat the snags at 7pm, settle in and watch the fireworks on telly till you fall asleep.

That's Australia Day!

:) Happy Aus day Crusty, Benny(even though its -4 in London):) :) :) , and all Ausies where ever you are, anyone finding a blond haired pom called Lee drunk and abusive in Melbourn please say his brother says "hi".:friday

Get out the old XTC records Crusty and down some Amber for me.:friday

Thanks mate!

Yeah it's not right being this bloody cold on Australia Day... 3 deg at lunchtime!! The brass monkeys are running :D

Australia Day's not all fun and games yer know, I got a carton of grog to slog through then down to the river surrounded by bronzed Aussie babes. to see the fireworks.

Blokes gotta work hard for the cause.

Have a good day yer bludgers.

Its hard reading this at work, only half an hours drive away from where Poida will be surrounded by bronzed babes. Thankfully I'll be getting paid triple time for working today, so I can get my scuba gear serviced for night dives.

Happy Aussie Day bludgers ;)

Some of your ex-colonies don't think it is such a bad idea. ;)

Sounds pretty similar to what I did. BBQ's, lots of sport, parties, local boatraces and hottest 100 countdown!! Hope you had a good one. :friday I did!!

I try to make every weekend Australia Day. However, Texas doesn't have as many harmful, dangerous, or potentially fatal creatures as the land down under provides its people.

So whenever I have a party (or rather when people actually come to my party.....one day......perhaps) I plan on hiding various bear traps and uninsulated powerlines under foot.

Oh wait! Black widows! Now there's somethin' I can find here! I'll have to repaint each one for more Austrealism.

Crusty me old chap...I got a new date for you. But this day each year it's Happy South Africa Cricket day....
South Africa v Australia at Johannesburg, Australia in South Africa 5th ODI, 12 Mar 2006

Once every decade there is a national, sometimes global moment, that everything's measured by. The fever and cricket mania that the unbelievable final one-day international generated in South Africa is unsurpassed by any sporting event, and that includes their rugby World Cup win in 1995. In years to come, everyone will know where they were as Boucher slammed the winning runs over mid-on's head.

I got back from Greece late last night, my flatmate mumbled something about the cricket, something along the lines of ".... 3 world records in one game.... most memorable game ever...can't believe we lost..... every south african at work laughs at me now...i'm going to bed..."

So.... what the hell happened???
