Happy Australia Day to all you flamin mongrels & galahs out there!!!

My second year away from Aus, today always takes my mind back to home and all the good things that wait for us there.

Australia Day for us used to be waking up and wandering down to Sydney Harbour to watch the boats all dressed up, watch the annual ferry race, go to a pub somewhere for a schooner and a pie, then off to a barbie at a mate's place where we sit out the afternoon with some coldies and enjoy the hot afternoon and evening.

Over here in London, somehow I don't think the barbie will be fired up today (see attached photo). Though on the upside, today is the one day of the year I can get absolutely shot to hell and get away with it :D

Right.... i'm off to the Walkabout for a Coopers Pale Ale and a pie.

Uru!

Happy Australia day, all You Southlanders! :friday

Me wanna go there!

wow snow!!! We are also celebrating in Dubai tonight Benny; some Aussies, and me (I have been allowed to be an Aussie for one night) - enjoy! Have a few for me as I am on diet rofl

Thanks Sara! :friday Enjoy being an Aussie for a day - and if you like it, we'll see what we can do :t

My diet's on hold for today.... I have the weekend to atone for my sins!

Ps. pulled out my Oz DVD's today, here are 3 of the best if anyone ever gets a chance....
3) We Can Be Heroes - a doco/moco series following 5 Australians all nominated for Australian of the year, all played by Chris Lilley. One is a man that saves a kid from a jumping castle incident, one a teenage girl who's sponsored 100 african kids (so she can be Aust of the year), one is a teenage boy who donates his eardrum to his deaf twin brother, one a chinese uni student into Aboriginal theatre, and the last is a woman who wants to roll from Perth to Alice Springs. Fantastic series.
2) Kenny - follows the life of a guy who's in the portable toilet business.
1) The Castle - possibly the funniest movie of all time, but for some reason non-Australians don't seem to get it as much as us. The story follows a family who fight a big multicorporate trying to compulsorily acquire their house. Has Eric Bana in it, when he was still a comedian and not a movie star.

Cheerio,
Ben

All you crow eaters, banana benders, cockroaches, cane toads, and sandgropers chuck a sickie and be a bogan for a day. Toss a Bunyip on the barbie for me!

Bonzer of a time,
Jim

P.S. We yanks call this day "Chunder down under"

Happy Australia Day all!

Interesting weather here in Perth, a hot evening easterly and lightning to complement the Australia Day fireworks. It's a great day to look at what brings us together, not drives us apart.

Chocolate Starfish!!!!! Man that takes me back to uni days (the band.... not the other meaning...)

I've been listening to some You Am I, Hoodoo Gurus and Hunters & Collectors, some of the best band rock to come from our shores.

Right - flatmate is heading home, now i'm really off to the pub! I've been good today.... we've got one packet of Tim Tams and i've left them alone :D

hey BennyB -- great Australia day night - got home at 0500am this morning

Sweet!!! You go Sara!

We had a great night - there was about 500 Aussies in this pub all singing the old songs, drinking the old beers and carrying on like sillybuggars. There's this "aussie" drink over here called a snakebite - dunno why it's aussie cause no-one has ever heard of them in Australia. It's half beer, half cider and topped with grenadine. Tastes really sweet and kicks like a mule. In fact if you drink them you know you're going to die.

Our flatmate bought 2 jugs of it at the end of the night and we still had one jug left when the pub closed. I stuck it under my arm and slung my jacket across it and headed out of the pub with my flatmate walking in front. He saw the bouncer at the door and grabbed his own jacket and puffed it up a bit and started looking a bit suspicious. The bouncer stopped him and asked to frisk him on the way out. He got frisked and I walked past smiling as I made my escape rofl

We were walking up the road and a girl noticed the jug of snakebite and came up to us to get a drink... we started talking and it turned out this girl was actually a cousin of my flatmates  He has a lot of uncles.... the conversation kind of went like this:
Flatmate: You're from Wagga? So am I... do you know the Goodens?
Girl: I am a Gooden!
Flatty: Huh? Who's your parents?
Girl: Pete and Heather
Flatty: Shit... you're my cousin!!!

Strange. While this was all happening I saw another girl walk into a post and fall down. I ran over to help and the poor girl was so drunk she couldn't stand up, walk, talk etc. So I ended up grabbing her while her boyfriend grabbed the other side and took her back to her place.

Crazy night! Aussies seem to go a thousand times more nuts when they're overseas.

Cheerio,
Ben
