Just a few random pictures from the 2006 Omer Hatteras Open. Despite 15-20knot SW winds these waterman rought 4-6ft seas 20-40miles offshore and still managed to pull off some productive blue water hunting.

I was especially happy to see Rene Rojas (63) win this year. Its truly nice to see a man with his legacy having spearfished in International tournaments since the 70's still be able to pull it off against the young guns.

Matt Turner - from www.spearfishinggear.com with the largest fish, 82lb Amberjack

Richard Balta - 43lb African Pompano

Blake Gaylord - Amberjack

Rene Rojas - bit off Yellofin tuna that sealed the deal for him.

T-shirt Logo

This was the coolest tournament T-shirt design we've ever had and I really liked it. I drove the artist mad with it too and he was satisfied with it as well when it was done. White Marlin in the corner, the most common of the billfshes in Hatteras, and the shape of Cape Hatteras made it pretty cool.

nice pics and t-shirt-design. I looked up cape hatteras on wikipedia, seems like a good place to be.

Is there good shore spearing also?

When it's clear, basically two months out of the year, and conditions are favorable with light winds. The locals wait for those days and charge the beach wrecks when teal colored water comes through. Its a lot of fun, just hit and miss.
