Im 6'3 and looking for a beter wetsuit as the surfing one i have does very little to keep me warm. i know what style I need but im suprised to find that any wetsuit for someone of my height is designed for the 'rounder' guy i.e huge waist sizes. does this mean Im gonna Have to go with a custom?

would appreciate any advice as the shorty wetsuit ive got only gave me less than an hour off portland bill the other day befor i had to jump out (or rather crawl out shivering.water was freezing!) .barely even got the speargun wet, although viz gave me some fun diving, Im really looking forward to getting more into this as a sport.

why are there no wetsuits for average build, taller guys?

Same problem here: 6'2 and 12.5 stone. I've just started looking for a freedive suit for UK waters (only ever dived in warm waters with a triathlon wetsuit before) and I think I'm going to have to go custom. I tried getting a Beuchat in size L, but though the height was just about adequate, it was way too baggy. (Beuchat have a Medium-Tall in their size chart which would fit me perfectly, but I can't find any for sale!)

Check out Elios, Topsub or some other manufacturer of tailor made suits. Really the prices are very fordable, and a suit that fits is so much more warmer and comfortable!

Hey Erik, good to "see" you again!

I can't find any prices on Elios's website -- anyone know, do they only give a price once you've filled out the made-to-measure form? I'd like to get some idea of how the different options compare. (Though, like with most things I buy, I'll probably get "mission creep" and end up getting the most expensive :head)

Hey Bryan, long time indeed! How's the book (s?) coming? I have 2 Elios custom suits. Take the measurements, send it in, and they will contact you with a price. Usually reasonable but shipping can be brutal.

thanks alot, have went for the beauchat so finger crossed:confused:

elios suits can be gotten from spearo site, pretty good price for a custom but i didnt have the 5 weeks to wait, holidays etc.

ill let you know on the size, probly gonna need an undervest i suspect because i cant find the medium long either, think its just made up to for someone to have a giggle at all hour wasted time lookin... oh well.

Abandoned the first three as a learning experience, but I have much higher hopes for the current one. Could be the first SFF novel with freediving -- might start a craze!

If that doesn't work you could always go on a high-cake diet and fill the suit out!

I looked at the Spearo site, only an extra £20 for made-to-measure does look good. I've also queried Elios directly.

Most wetsuit companies worth their salt will have Medium tall wetsuits in their price range. I use a C-skins M/T size suit and it fits me like a glove (6ft 3, 13 1/2 stone). Never be tempted to go for a suit that is too 'wide' for you. Its easy to compensate for too little height in a wetsuit, but a loose fitting suit is a suit that isnt working.
One thing to note is that some suits which are too tall will end up bunching around the waist and vaccuming water in to the suit when they extend again.
Cressi do tend to make their suits quite tall and slender anyway, so even if it isnt labelled as a tall suit you may be ok.
With wetsuits remember that its very very hard to go too small (assuming you can get in it!), but very easy to go too big. A wetsuit that feels comfortable in a changing room is often too big in the water.

Im in the other bracket, Im 6ft 6 and weight a slender 22st :D so a suit of the shelf is very rare, I could do with loosing a stone o2 but Im not carrying a gut, just a broad frame. I tried one or two one and the lenght was too short so have gone down the route of MTM, that way I know the suit will fit me like a glove, I have a drysuit for scuba diving and that was also made to measure as one of the shelf was compromise to the spec I wanted. Im only new to freediving/spearing and in comparison to scuba, its a cheap setup, one other issue I found was fin sizes and socks, Im a size 14uk and had to get mine MTM and modify my fins with a stanley knife, glue and some lace holes, maybe a manufacturer should make a range for bigger, taller guys?
