Hi, I will be touring the University of Hawaii at Manoa during my spring break. I was wondering a couple of things, and wanted to see if anyone on here could help me. I looked on the Hawaii department of land and resources and didnt get any helpful information. What are the rules and regs for spearing in hawaii? How about non-res permit costs? Is there anywhere to go spearfishing from shore? Thanks

Hey, thanks deepsea. Any recommendations on locations to hunt from shore?

Check out hawaiiskindiver.com, this is where most locals post. Start getting to know some of the guys and explain your situation. Be advised that people over there are very protective of their spots due to over fishing. They also are not very fond of the mainland and it will be hard to get info out of them but there are some good guys that will point you in the right direction.

I was able to set up a charter but it ended up costing me a fortune, the good part was I got to know some great spearos by posting the charter on HSD. They helped out with the cost and told me about some spots.

When you get there check out Hana Pa’a on Dillingham near the Airport. Anything you could possibly need for spearfishing plus good guys behind the counter, just realize that they will help you out a lot more when there are no “Braddas” aka locals in the store.

Oh and check out Spearboard.com

Good luck
