I am finally getting back to some water again! My wife, daughter and I are heading to Lani Kai (to vacation with my wife's family...) from the 10th through the 20th of Feb. I would love to find someone to dive with while we're there. While I am not interested in hunting per se, I enjoy watching spearfishers at work, as long as they don't mind me not carrying a gun myself.
My experience is primarily in the cold and crazy waters of Northern California taking abalone in approximately 30 feet, but I've gone as deep as 70 in the comfy waters of the Turks and Caicos.
Any hints on what gear I'll need would be very welcome. My plan is to bring a belt, but get weights there. Will a suit be helpful, if so, is 5mm to much? (I'm skinny and get cold easy)

While I'm at it, I would appreciate any advice on scuba operators as well in case my wife decides she wants to go diving while there.

I did freediving and scuba in Oahu a few years back. I get cold easily too so I was glad to have my wetsuit with. The water temp was a bit warm for both top and bottom, so I just wore my top with attached hood w/o the famer john bottom and put one of those zero insulation lycra sharkskins over that for sun protection on my legs.

Have a great time!

Thanks for the info, I'll bring my suit then.

I guess I should have been more clear about my desire to find some buddies to dive with. I'm pretty good with a camera and can promise to try for some good glory shots of hunters or otherwise.
And more importantly, I'll be living with my in-laws for ten days in a vacation home, so any excuse to get out of the house to buy someone a beer is good enough for me :friday!
I'm finally getting to a point where to really enjoy myself and push past 70 feet (something I'm confident I'll be able to do) I'd like to have someone else in the water as well.
