Whats heart rate monitor can be taken to depth? Or is good that some of you have used?

Uwatec Galileo computers come with a HR sensor (a chest strap). If my memory serves well, it can be taken to 120m, and on request they are able to provide an oil filled version for depths over 300m. According to some sources, also other Uwatec models will support HR monitors in near future. Other than that, I am currently not aware of any HR monitor that would be rated for more than pool use.

Wouldnt a HRM be useless unless the pulse was recorded so it could be reviewed after the event? Every monitor i've used has only ever been monitoring at-that-time, which would be no good for underwater use?

The Uwatec computers record HR. I used one in Dahab, think my HR went from 120BPM at the surface to 60BPM at 80m.

Of course, it's more a curiosity than a training tool. Though I suppose you could use it to see when HR drops and ensure you train to that point regularly.

Yes, Uwatec computers show the HR live, and record it as well. I find it an excellent training tool - besides others, it can also help you finding the optimal way to trigger early and profound Diving Response. You can experiment different approaches and see what their impact is. Without having an objective tool like the HRM, it is often difficult to see clearly the impact of changed methodology of the training or of the preparation.

I have a polar heart rate monitor that is rated to 50 but have heard of others taking it deeper. Only problem is that under water you have to keep the watch close to the chest transmitter as the water is to dense so you have to tape the watch to your chest next to the transmitter for best results. It can record at 5 sec 30 sec or 1m intervals.
