I ran across this article and thought of you folks on DeeperBlue:

Cypher by Quiksilver - high performance wetsuits for superior surfing

It's a heated vest. I've used heated vests for motorcycling in cold weather and can say that a bit of extra heat to the torso does wonders. This one has heat pads designed to deliver heat to the kidney area at either 116F or 129F. Control is a button that can be operated through the wetsuit and gives a vibration feedback to indicate the setting.

I would think that either the whole vest, or maybe just the heat pads cut out and put into a freedive wetsuit, would allow relaxed colder water freediving with a thinner wetsuit. Price is about $200 and they claim 2 hours use on "high" from a fully charged battery.
