Hello everyone. My name is Steve and I'm new here in the community. I'm originally from Canada, I just started learning recreational diving a month ago in toronto and I want to dedicate my time practicing here before I head out to join some of my peers there. Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum. I hope to get along on the best foot.

How thick of a wetsuit do you need for your waters? Just curious.

I guess a 3mm would be fine right?

In the northwest I have found that a 3 mil is good for summer weather out on the lakes where water temperatures are up to 75 F. As soon as you get below 10m you will see the temperature drop very quickly and can be down to 50 F by 20m. In the winter deep lakes will generally sit around 40 F for any depth and one will need a very fine fitting suit close to 7mm. I don't think the Pacific will be cozy in anything less than a 5 mil for any part of the year.

Ok, I actually didn't know that, thanks though. Actually, I was about to buy a new one because my old suit Bare Velocity one got torn in a few places. I will definitely keep that in mind.

Torn wetsuit? Is it smooth skin, i.e. no
protective nylon outer? You can glue wetsuits, even quite large tears and holes with wetsuit glue such as Black Witch or Spetton brands. Surprisingly effective.

Second for black witch, it is excellent, I've also patched things up using material from old hoods and gloves etc, it sticks neoprene like you would not believe.
