Hey everybody, my name is Sean. I've been snorkeling and diving in Nor.Wi. since i was a kid.I discovered your forum and thought this would be a great chance to take it to another level! I have most necessary equipment, although i will need to upgrade my wet suit to make the most of the year.I also have a JBL 38-special with interest but no knowledge in spearfishing.Unfortunately i do work Fri.-Sun.,6am-6:30pm but if anyone has time during the week to point me in the right direction let me know.

Hi Sean. There is a thread (right below this one) entitled "New to the sport" which was recently added with almost your exact question. You'll find help there as well as on the "beginner spearfishing" section on the main page of deeperblue.com.

Looks like you live sort of by PingGene. He's a spearfishing maniac!

Sean,

Welcome! I'm sure you will find the forums very informative. Try to make as many of the planned events as you can...you will meet a lot of good people into the sport.

I'm going to try to take a dip tonight at the "Point" just North of Menomonie Park in Oshkosh on Lake Winnebago. I was over there a few days ago (open spot on shore facing South), and couldn't believe how clear the water is. I then went ice fishing with a camera 2 days ago & could see 13' or so... However, spearing is closed in Winnebago County from 3/16 - 4/1...so, I will just be checking things out...unless there are too many fishermen around...don't want to make them mad...

Take care & keep in touch.

Gene

Sean,

What lakes do you usually dive in? I'm always looking for a new place to try. Looking for clarity & rough fish (usually they don't go hand in hand I know.)

Keep in touch,

Gene

Gene - The lake that got us thinking about spearfishing in the first place is Lawrence Lake (Pond) in Marquette Co. Very clear and Lots of Carp and Gills. We'd see these HUGE carp, but we couldn't hit them with our bows. Too deep. But now they're all in trouble:martial . We're talking Big Man EATING CARP!!!!

Gene,
I go and visit my family on White Sand lake in Vilas Co.. Unfortunatly no spearfishing in that Co..Are there any lakes around here that are begginer friendly?I grew up in Sheboygan Co.,thought about seeing what's going on around there.A couple more weeks and I should be fully equipped!
