Hello there spearfishing community,

I live in Poole and spent alot of last summer plugging with a spinning rod mainly at kimmeridge. Problem was I caught nothing! I spoke to a guy who spearfishes across the purbecks and he sounded as if he was much more succsessful than me! So my plan is to get myself a speargun this spring in the hope of bringing the occassional bass home for the pot.

So if anybody wouldnt mind me coming out with them when the water starts to warm up as a buddy that would be great.Ive always thought the west side of the bench looked fishy but where isnt along the purbecks! Im confident in the sea as a surfer but have no spearing experience.

Does anybody have a second-hand entry level speargun that they would like to sell? I love a deal as long as its cheap! Im looking for something that's easy to load and has a decent saftey catch if possible.

Cheers

The only advice I can give you mate is that SLACK RUBBERS ARE THE ONLY SAFETY safety catches are annoying as im sure at some point ( if you decide to use a safety catch) will find out.

Hi Big Blue, welcome to deeper blue!
Well we always like a new face on board, I am afraid my English geography is not very good but here are the English threads UK & Ireland where you can find some buddies.

Big Blue,

Welcome to the forum mate. Introduce yourself again on the 'Dorset Spear Fishing 2010' thread - this will be your main source of info/place to chat/swap stories/learn about local spearing.

We do have a wessex spearfishing club that meets up on Tuesday evenings for a dive and a couple of beers, when the season gets going, and we usually post notices about that on the Wessex thread. This probably won't get going again until closer to May though, when the fish start showing up in force - and you are more than welcome to join in on that when it starts up again

In fact everything is a bit quiet at the moment, both in the water and on the forum - people aren't getting in much at the moment due to the weather and the fact that most of the fish bugger-off for the winter.

If you want to check out gear in the meantime, you could pop down to O Three wetsuits, on the way to Portland, and have a look around.

To be honest, if you went in at this time of the year it would probably put you off for life anyway. Best to wait until the weather and water warm up a bit, the visibility clears, and the fish show up again.

All the best,

Gaz
