Hello from Asia

New to the forum and almost new in Hong Kong where I live for 1 year . I am French , but I leave France for 9 years (4 years in South America and 4.5 years in Wallis island in the Pacific, and now HK) . This is one year since I can not do spearfishing weekly ....
After 4 years of living on a Pacific island where I was doing spearfishing at least once a week , I do not want to stop ! I do not search for "competition", I learned with "old" spearfisher, and I prefer to come back with nothing than coming with small and not intersting fish. I never and will never shoot sharks, Napoleon fish (Cheilinus undulatus)...
I wish to set up an association of submarine hunters in Hong Kong to:
- 1: attempt to legalize underwater harpoons in Hong Kong (here it is forbidden because it is considered a weapon !!! )
- 2 : to bring together enthusiasts spearfishing at HK and organize trips to the Philippines , Malaysia ...

Unfortunatelly I would never dive into the polluted waters of Hong Kong and the Pearl Delta .

Otherwise, I am PE teacher at French International School of HK .

My favorite spot : it's a secret.... Ouvea island ( loyalty islands of new Caledonia - south pacific, AMAZINGGGGGGG, lot of sharks but Tuna also and other)

My favorite "diving" : hot sea, in blue, and around the walls of coral reefs

Do you have to travel in order to find a good diving spot? We've had members from Hong Kong over the years, but I haven't seen many pics or descriptions of where they dive. By the way, feel free to post pics and trip reports in the International Buddy and Trip Reports subforum. It sounds like you have quite a bit of experience diving in different places, and it's always nice to hear about such places.

Me, I live in California, and I have to travel at least two and a half hours if I want to dive in the ocean. There are freshwater reservoirs closer than that, but they are not attractive options.

Thank you for your answer. I'll take the time to ask some "trip reports". Here in Hong Kong, even if it is on an island, it is not possible to hunt:
- Polluted water
- Prohibited on the territory harpoons (which makes travel difficult for this activity); very careful if you pass through there with your equipment!

We also loved snorkeling on a coral reef only 100 mtrs off shore of Baie De Citroen New Caledonia.....lots of fish and sea snakes....

Baie De Citroen ? It is Baie des Citrons in Noumea city, I think, isn't it ?

Baie De Citrons is just south of Noumea almost always calm compared to Anse Vata beach around the piont that can really get windy the wind surfers and kite surfers really fly....we loved our stay there and hope to return someday...
