Hi, I'm Ivan the Terrible from Belgium.
A while back i asked an old chestnut tree advice on how to quit smoking, he was quite prompt in saying 'Water' in a sort of condenscending way.
Basic logic i guess..
So I began to swim a couple of months ago, but my crawl-breathing technique was so uncoordinated that i started doing lengths underwater (might as well not breathe rather than suck up half the pool).
I discovered the yoga like effects of doing lengths + breathing up - despite the chlorine poisoning i would breathe really deep and easy upon leaving the pool.
So I did reinvent DNF without legstroke and began swimming slower and slower daily, enjoying the great escape.
Then 1 week-end I met a scuba-girl at a party who told me that I was in fact doing 'apneu' and she was sort of emotional about safety and my buddyless daily practice.
Simultaneuously there was a fatal drowning in my home pool while I was away for my first practice in an olympic pool. A young diver who was 'training for a championship' was found lifeless on the bottom of the pool at closing time. His girlfriend couldn't spot him due to exams, and he was said to be doing solo static breathholds. They started his heart back up, but most of him was allready gone, so ..
This sequence of events led me to read up on safety, SWB, hyperventilation, etc.
Though I feel bad for the lifeguards, their projected guilt and the ensuing hysteria has become quite tiresome recently.
I was asked to swim with one hand above water (maybe mount a sharkfin on my back too?), some said 1 length only (1*25m per session) others said do your thing - when its calm + we can watch you.
Too much interference.
Curious as to my supposed deathwish i did the O₂ tables a couple times and rose from 2 to 4 minutes yesterday.
I gather this rate of progress doesn't last
So now i'm looking for a club/course/apneu friendly pool and develop furthur.
Greetings
