imjust gettin into this, i did alot of freediving and spearfishing back in 92- 94 when i lived on kauai. i like fishin alot and thought it would be cool to see how it is over here spearfishing. just got my wetsuit and mask n snorkel so far. hopefully u guys can tell me whats the best route to follow out here. so my first question is does anyone have an opinion on whether i should use a hawaiian sling or get a speargun i plan on targeting rockfish and halibut if possible and i live near pismo beach avila and shell beach where i plan to hunt the fishies thanks for all the help

Hello and welcome on DB...Hope you will get an answer from many experties here...
also you can search old threads here lots of info already discussed...

The only thing i know is in rocky places there are using small guns 75cm long would be good and it depends also on the visibility the lower visibility the smaller the gun you need...

All best
