Hi all!

Glad to find your forum, I felt a bit lonely to freedive and spearfish in the UK, coming from France! All my friends wondered why I forgot my tanks!

Well, looking forwar to catch the biggest bass of my life! I've seen one big one already... from a distance.

In the meantime, I'm flying soon to Gran Canaria in the Canary Island and I look forward to get some advice from the most well-travelled of our finned-brothers and sisters!

All the best and see you soon.

Adeline

You're a bit land locked (in Uk terms - its not like you're in Kansas!). I'm in Brighton and don't know of anyone else on the forum who lives here. I'm going to London Notanx to train.

I know I would love to live by the sea... lucky you!
I go to Dorset in 2 hours drive. I just wonder if anyone wanted to share the drive and the cost of fuel...
What is Notanx?

hey Siku,

Im pretty new to freediving but I live in Southampton which isn't too far from Brighton. I've ordered some kit which i'll hopefully have by next week. I've never been diving in the uk but i'm very keen to get in the water asap. If you ever need a buddy just get in touch

Hi Siku,
I go through So'ton to go to the coast. Let me know if you still looking for a buddy.
I'm going on saturday, weather permitted, to Lulworth Cove, West of Swansea.

Who dives in winter here??? Is it possible?

I live in Southampton, and this weekend is definitely not worth the trip for you save the fuel - these SW and southerly winds have turned the sea into pea soup!

Lulworth Cove is not west of Swansea (maybe South-East of Swansea - by quite a lot, maybe a hundred and 50 or so miles) :) - perhaps you meant west of Southampton? Don't worry though, Lulworth Cove is a very well known landmark - folk will know where you mean.

RE. winter, fishing can be good through November but tends to tail off there-after (most of the bass leave), although some concentrate on flat fish & shell-fish beyond that in places that lend themselves to it. February & March tend to be grim v. cold & often stormy.

You might get lucky with the weather this weekend, but I suspect not:

I'll probably give it a miss. :(

Oh - I see Tunny has already given us local info - thanks ;)

Think he might mean West of Swanage!

Hi all,

thanks for responding. Of course it was west of Swanage!!!!! lol sorry for the typo...
Went to Lulworth Saturday 30/10. Beautiful sunny day.... but with lots of wind! White sheeps offshore and murky milky waters in the cove. Didn't dive there, given teh poor visibility.
Was so frustrated I had to bathe anyway in the protected waters in the Man of War bay. Quite refreshing, but still warm.

Let me know if anyone goes there, I'm keen to learn with more experienced divers.

Best
