We are sailing to Grenada from Miami, currently in Bequia. I have been a little discouraged by how fished out the Caribbean is - not at all like the Bahamas. Does anyone have any idea how to find out about the spearing regulations for freedivers in Grenada? Regulations are all over the place in the islands to the north. (ok without bottle, ok with slings and polespears, ok for natives, not foreigners, not ok, maybe ok, ok with a native, etc. etc. )

Sorry Peter, can't help you on regs south of the Bahamas.

Loved your blog. I've traveled much of the same territory, good memories.

I’ve taken my holidays for the last 2 years over at Grenada and can tell you that if you’re not a native of the island then you’re not allowed to spearfish whether freediving or with bottles.
Take your camera though as there’s a few nice reefs and the underwater sculpture park to visit.
Lovely place and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it even if like me you aren’t aloud to take your speargun.

Podge is correct, only locals are allowed to spearfish in our waters.

but we do have very, very limited coast guard presence so if you are in one of the outer islands or even in some of the sheltered bays you could do it.
