I am considering a freediving class in Aug or Sep. In Kona, but I live on the Hilo(east) side of the island and I don't spearfish. Hopefully I can find a dive partner before I take any classes. Having lived in Hawai'i for thirty years and scuba dived for twenty , I've seen a lot of people die. Seems like one a year dies while freediving and spear fishing or doing photography. I'd really like to find a buddy that will put safety and training first.

Welcome Mark. I have linked this thread to the USA regional part of the forum.

Welcome, Mark. The freediving classes are useful for safety and technique, even if you do not spearfish. I highly recommend them.
