So, here I am, stuck on a little rock in the middle of the Irish sea (could be worse, I could have got a job in Canada).

I was hoping to keep my diving addiction in check with semi-regular trips to the Mediteranean, but looks like that's not going to do it. So looks like I'll be making my first dive in anything other than a 3mm shortie soon (hooray for Thailand and Malta).

Not looking forward to that as I like warm water dammit. Ahh well, another few months of saving and I'll be ready to pack it all in and go somewhere sunny that has an IDC, cheap beer, and both the other necessities of life (the internet and good food).

Anyone know anything about scuba places / clubs on the island? Probably not the right place to ask but it can't hurt trying here before wandering into the other forums. I'm looking to do my Divemaster this "summer" and think doing it on the island would be fun rather than rushing through it at some resort.

The Isle of Man :king dude what a place!!!!! A bunch of us went over about 3 years ago and had a fantastic time. We had one trip in particular to see and dive with Basking sharks out of Port Erin, dude it was THE experience of my life! The diving in Port Erin itself is notable too, with some fantastic stuff to see.

There is a club on the island, they have a website if you do a search. They gave us a lot of help before our trip.

- & furthermore you have the most exciting motorcycle race in the world to look falward to!!

Yeah everyone's already excited by TT, the IT guy at work has booked both weeks off so he can wave "slow down"flags at people in pit lane.

Mostly I'm looking forward to the beer tents and the promo girls ;) motorsport's not really my thing.

Dude it will be! You will never forget the experience of spectating a "TT"
Lets face it where in the World can you watch a sport knowing people "Will" die!!!!

20 years ago I might have been up for a high speed thrash around the TT circuit but considering my track record or rather my hedge record rofl

The TT shouldn't be missed! I would give Pastor's left testicle to see it!
And if you ever get hired in Canada, get hired on the West Coast: the nicest coldwater diving in the world!
Cheers and enjoy what I'm sure is some great diving where you are :)

OMG that's f'ing horrible... sorry to jack your thread kiwinomad, especially that vid :yack

ha ha I could only watch enough to hear it was the right song rofl Sorry dudes

Hijack away - the more posts I get in my welcome thread the cooler I am, right?

That video is a rough initiation ceremony, I can't believe it ever passed for music - I'd much rather have gotten rickrolled.

Not so big on people dying being an attraction of something (especially at the moment given another friend of mine died in an outdoors accident recently :(). I'll pre-emptively say that there's absolutely no offence or any need for an apology as there's no way you could know.

To get philosophical (since it's my thread :)), I understand that most things that are fun have an integral set of risks and that to some extent it's fighting these risks that is the fun bit. Knowing your skills / knowledge / good decisions will decrease the probability of disaster is, for want of a better word, empowering. I just hate seeing the consequences when a rope breaks, a flash flood comes, someone gets hit by an avalanche, or whatever because I'm a mammal and therefore have a strong death-avoidance instinct. On the upside, I suppose, it's better to pack 40 years of life into 25 years than stretch 40 years of life over 90 of existence.

So yeah, enough platitudes, I'm probably looking forward to TT more than I'm letting on, been watching some you tube videos and stuff to get in the mood - INSANE.

Plus Senior race day is a public holiday, so what else am I going to do?
