Hi everyone... I'm from Montenegro (ex Yugoslavia)... Found this forum while i was searching for some information about spearfishing on Google... I found a lot of interesting things here... I'm new to spearfishing, but i'm quite an experienced swimmer and a good diver as I'm born on the coastline, but till now I done only snorkeling... I'm living on Adriatic Sea, and the water is very clear, and the visibility is high... Now I bought some Cressi equipment... I bought Cressi SL 55 speargun (oleo-pneumatic), and on my first dive I killed 2 fish, so it's not so bad for the first time :) I also bought Cressi mask, fins, gloves, etc. So what is your opinion about my equipment? :)

Best regards,
Niksa :)

Welcome Niksa. Your kit sounds pretty normal to me. If the water is clear, you might find a longer gun useful later, as well. Cressi, sell both SCUBA & spearing fins & masks, so difficult to comment on those but the Matrix & Lince masks would probably be good spearing masks (low volume/reasonable field of view) & 2000 & 3000 LD fins seem to be fairly popular spearing fins. As long as it works - and it sounds like it does - that's the main thing to start with.

Wetsuit, weight belt, diver-down buoy, fish-stringer, knife?

Welcome to DB, mate.

Cressi Sl is a good choice. I have one Cressi Sl 40 Star for fishing in narrow holes and in dark water. One Omer Excalibur 75 (arbalete) for less dark water.

For me you could use a 100 or a 90. Montenegro waters are very clear as in Croazia.

Mask: I have a Cressi Lince. It's excellent.

What about your wetsuit?

All the best,

Kinky

Hey mate,

Do you need a spearfishing licence in Montenegro as in Croatia?

Hi guys... Tnx for your answers... I'm new on spearfishing, so I didn't buy a high range gun now although water is clear, cause I must first learn how to target well on smaller targets (fish). Cressi Sl 55 with reducer seamed as a nice and simple gun for a begginer as I am. Also, I haven't bought a wetsuit yet, cause I don't take long time in water, at maximum hour or two for now, and the water is warm, about 25C now. But I'll buy wetsuit soon, or next summer, because an diving istructor told me a few things about that. I think that Cressi "Med" wetsuit, or something like that will do the job :) About mask, it's Cressi Matrix, seems very good, and the fins are the open type, Cressi Palau, I like them because they are comfortable, and practical. I don't know about the spearfishing licence, becouse I don't know anyone that has such paper in Montenegro, probably there's some institute for that, but the law is weak in that area, and there's almost no control on sea. Recent years a lot of SCUBA divers used guns illegaly, and no one punished them...

Dear Incognito,

now you need a good diver-down buoy. It can save your life. Believe me!

Fins: you are using scuba fins. It should be better Gara 3000 LD or other freediving fins.

Wetsuit: for beginners I suggest Cressi Record or Beuchat Mundial Reversible. They are easy to wear.

All the best,

KK

Welcome from Texas! As you see there's lots of great advice here. The best though is getting experience safely. Always dive with a buddy and definitely get that flag on a float!
