Hi,

I'm Eric from Montreal, Quebec. I have just started training (6 weeks) for free diving using underwater hockey interval training routines i.e dynamic only. My focus is spearfishing. If anyone can provide me with spearfishing specific training routines, it would be appreciated greatly. This is a great forum with a lot of good technical info. So much in fact I need help to ID the proper training regimen. I don't plan to compete or dive more than 25 M but the longer I can safely stay under the better. Thx in advance for your help.

Eric,

Tailor your training to mimic what you want to do.

For an example of pool training, if you want to spend a lot of time in 40-60 ft of water, swim 60 feet underwater, drift into the wall (25 yard pool), static for as long as is comfortable, then swim back , fast at first, then slower. Weight yourself so you are not fighting buoyancy. With practice, you will find your static times getting longer. To help mimic pressure, exhale 1/2 to 2/3 of your air before you start. When you actually get to go diving, your body will be used to the time and energy pattern it will need. Also, doing this on exhale helps kick in your dive reflex, close to real diving. Do this with a spotter, of course.

Good luck with it

Connor
