hi all !
live in north devon and fancied spearfishing for ages now . i currently fish from a kayak and the shore so know the waters round here pretty well. i have just ordered mask fins and snorkel and i am thinking about a seac asso 60 as my main speargun . any comments or recommendations ?

Hi Rob, welcome to db.
We do have a specific Devon thread if you want to say hello there.
the seac asso 60 is a little small & perhaps not the best choice for a firs gun, most guys start with a 75cm single band gun.
75 & 90cm band guns are definitely the most popular used in the UK however air guns of 90 & 115cm are great guns too.
Strangely enough band guns & air guns are measured for length in different ways, bands guns use the distance from band attachment to trigger mechanism but air guns are measured from overall length ie muzzle to rear of handle!
Next up is the fact that airguns are more expensive as the best ones will cost £200 +.
I use a "mamba 90" airgun, they cost about £180 but are very powerful & smooth.
I also use an Seac asso 115 & that is a very, very powerful gun but is in fact shorter than a 90 band gun!

Hi Rob. The issue locally is Viz. The last two years have been very bad, but we do get clear days. If you were only to spear when the viz is good you'd only get out a few times each year so you'll get used to scratching around on the bottom finding patches to hide in where the viz allows you to see past your gun. Based on this I'd go 75cm Band gun.

Welcome to DB from Texas! You seem to have the skinny from the best.
