Hi
I am a 25 year old girl and I joined this forum to connect with other free divers and learn more about the sport
I am a beginner myself, wanting to do recreational free diving, apnea with fins. I am a retired competitive swimmer

Hiand thanks
Belgium! How cool! I have never done freediving, but have always wanted to. I'm going to buy a monofin but still cannot decide which one to go for. Haha, you probably ask questions that im also wondering about, so its all good for me
where is the best place you have been diving?
Thanks!Welcome!
Your swimming skills may help you greatly in freediving!
This forum will provide a wealth of resources and people who know what they're doing (not me)

Wow, that didn't sound very fun. I hope you will be able to travel to freedive somewhere with a warmer temperature and better visibility soon, I imagine freediving is magic under those conditionsI have done some freediving, but due to personal circumstances (my wife absolutely HATES water), I can not travel to freedive in open water. :-/
So, the best place I've been to for freediving is rather pathetic: it was during my AIDA 2* exam: an indoor pool that was deep enough to do the required depth. Being a very nervous person by nature (which is NOT good for freediving), this was way better than the first open water dives we did during the course where the water temp was 8°C and visbility was about 2m... As this was my first open water dive ever (apart from my PADI open water diver exam 8 years ago), it was quite traumatic.
But don't let me keep you away from freediving with my personal frustrations. It IS a wonderful activity! You're were a competitive swimmer? You should be very comfortable in the water. I would suggest you take a freedving course and begin with bifins (two fins instead of a monofin) and then work your way up (or should I say down?) to a monofin?
Thank you!Welcome to the forum. As others have stated there is loads of info on here about freediving. I'm a beginner myself and only really started to get into diving this summer. Here in Michigan its getting cold and the water temps are dropping. Hopefully I'll be able to dive a bit more before it starts snowing and the diving gets real cold.
