I'm 40 and I've been freediving all my life without even knowing what it is. All I did was snorkel in various lakes, in the ocean and so on and just took a breath and went down 20-30ft to play around a bit and then come back up.
I recently met the Toronto freedivers at the etobicoke pool, where I was helping my sweetie overcome her fear of swimming in deeper waters. We were swimming in the shallow pool where I was trying to get her used to swimming in the deeper end so she couldn't touch the bottom. After our hour was up, I walked over to the olympic pool to check out the scuba divers that were taking courses and noticed a smaller group doing freediving. Then it clicked: "Hey, that's what i do!'. I joined up shortly thereafter and have been going to the pool every week since then.
I hope to learn more about the proper equalisation techniques, especially hands-free, and how to hold my breath longer.
Anyway, nice to be here. I hope to learn more and eventually contribute to help others as well.
