Hi All,
I have been checking out thia board for several years now an have finally signed up. U started SCUBA in 1996 and then got into Freediving in 1999 when I went through US Navy Search and Rescue swimmer school and apnea became part of my job. I have had spells where I havr been able to do more diving some years than others but I always manage to get out at least a couple of times a year. My favorite diving activity is spearfishing. I have gained much wisdom from this board over the years and now hope to share some of mine. I mostly dive a local lake -. AWESOME spot in my opinion for freedive training and get salty as tume and money allows. I llok forward to engaging in discussions with you guys.

Hey, glad you could join us. I'd love to see pics of your spearfishing trips. Do you get to spear in freshwater, or ocean only?

Hey BatRay,
South Carolina allows you to spear non gamefish in freshwater like catfish and gar. I mostly spear in freshwater brcause it is the closest but I hope to get out to the ocean this summer. It is about a 3 hour drive from where I live. I have 4 kids and they all love the water. My oldest son is 13 and just got certified in SCUBA for his birthday. He likes to freedive too but can't go deep like dad yet. The NAUI course is really good because they cover breath hold stuff before they go on SCUBA and now he understands things like residual nitrogen. We are hoping to get out to the ocean this summer. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. I think the only ones I currently have are pretty lame-some small gar.

That's a pretty well-rounded scuba course. I got my certification through SSI. They covered basic snorkeling techniques like duck diving and clearing your ears. They didn't mention residual nitrogen as part of that component, though.
