Hi, my name is Tim
I live on beautiful isle of Tiree in hebrides- I am really a surfer / swimmer who has been having a go at freediving, although did do bsac 20 years ago.
If any freedivers/ spearfishers coming to Tiree send me a a message. I work offshore so may or may not be arround.

Welcome to DB from Texas! Thanks for the gracious offer--when I win the lottery. rofl

Thanks for reply

Can you give me any tips for handling spear gun eg loading ! as I am thinking of starting doing this and dont think there is anyone on the island population 700 ! who spear fishes

Quite new to this but have been snorkelling / diving for 30 years and like to think of myself as alround waterman

Which is easiest type to start with air or band, any recommendations tips appreciated

thanks
Tim

hi Tim
i am new to spearing like you and have found this site great for picking up tips and people are more than happy to help i asked a similar question and was told prob the most suitable was an 85 with a 115 shaft i think its on one of my threads will let you know if what i just said is rubbish.
spearing or even just snorkeling up there more than intrests me how the hell do you get to the hebredies though epic drive!!!! anyhow there are bits and pieces about loading and maintenance on you tube have a look, i still aint bought the gun but have one in mind be interesting to see if you come to the same conclusion.
are there camp sites on your tiny isle?? i am going down to sussex in a couple of weeks it would be interesting to see whats going on at the other end of britain! welcome aboard:)
peace

Hi
Sorry took so long to get back
Yes , tiree is a long way away. You drive to glasgow , turn left drive to oban, 3hrs, and then catch a 4 hr ferry!
There is camping but better to rent a holiday house as being wet and cold in and out of the sea is not fun.
We can get days of sun but also days of wind and rain!

Nice one Tim,
i had a good look on the web, wow what a place! i managed to get in down south at selsey only saw one fish, but first time out with all the gear so really enjoyed it. have you any idea what the viz water temp has been like there, do you spearfish or is it just the freediving have you been in recently??

peace
Graeme

Hi Graeme

Yes we are quite along way away !

I have not yet got a speargun , seriously thinking about buying one now. I do see some fish but am not that hopeful on bringing home the tea !

The sea temp is 14 deg C.
our visibility obviously varies with sea state but It seems pretty clear and the sea sometimes looks like caribbean - I am not experienced in saying on visibility but I do know that when out surfing on beach breaks I can see the bottom.

Port Bharrapol (Tiree) Surf Report, Surf Forecast and Surf Webcams

attched a link to magicseaweed - the surfers choice of wave reports which is obviously useful if ever planning trips

Is it wrong that I associate the Hebrides with Julian CLeary's show? He did a skit "Celebrities to the herbides."

I'll shut up now, but welcome to DB from Australia!!!

Yes you could be right. Is it true that Dame Edna goes spearfishing ?

We also have lots of sheep on the island, do you have many in Australia ?

Anyway I wouldnt mind diving and surfing in some warm water as black rubber wear can get so tiresome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although some people are know to wear kilts .

best wishes

Tim

Kilts, for swimming?? :p

We do, we have more sheep than nearly any other nation. It's NZ that's the problem though, they have more sheep than people.

I don't know about Dame Edna pearfishing, I guess, she/he could of course!
