I'm studying to be a Marine Biologist in a college. I've been looking for a way to extend my breath hold time safely. I've only did a few freedives in my life and there were quite shallow. I do not want to be competitive though.

Welcome to Deeperblue! You may want to research freediving classes in your area. That'll improve your safety as well as overall technique. You may also want to post in the forums if you're looking for a buddy.
