Hi all,

been a member for a while but have been happy just reading until this thing said i should say hello.

Joined DB for an introduction to freediving, am quite keen on just using it as a skill to explore the sea, maybe to catch fish but something tells me im happier observing than putting spears through the things that i admire, on the other hand lobster or some fat tuna steaks on my plate would be very nice indeed.

I am a PADI divemaster and feel a logical progression is to go toward apnea or deeper but the latter is expensive. What would anyone recommend to someone wanting to start freediving in a non competitive fashion, i would like to get some depth and so far have managed to do a static of 1.30mins and 50m dynamic with fins feeble i know but its a start. My greatest acheivement is that i have managed to smoke only 3 cigarettes so far today in my attempt to cut down for my own fitness and apnea :friday

My cressis gara's should come soon hopefully that should improve my dynamic a bit :)

Can anyone point me toward and free documentation that covers the basics of freediving, I would like to enroll in an AIDA course but unfortuantely my budget and locations seldom allow it.

Cheers

Freddie

Hi Freddie, Welcome to DB.

Check the "how to start freediving" thread in Beginner Freediving. Its at the top of the list. Just about anything else you want to know is here somewhere. A good trick is learn to use the search function. Ask whatever questions you need too, but use the search function first.

Welcome!

You don't have to love spearfishing to be here :) I don't bother it with it and am purely into freediving.

Check out FII or PFI Intro to freediving courses as they offer a lot of knowledge and skip development in a controlled and safe manner. After that - look for some experience freedivers to take you under their "belt"

Welcome again!
