Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and new to spear fishing.

I live down in Roatan, Honduras. A buddy of mine came from Canada yesterday and brought me a new JBL 38 Special. He had taken the whole thing apart to bring it on the plane. then when he got here, we attempted to put it back together. The problem we're having is that when he took it out of his luggage, the pistol/handle, came apart in 2 pieces (as you sse in the pics) cause he had taken the 3 screws out of it when he took the barrel and the butt off.

NOW, there are 2 pieces in the pistol/handle that we can't figure out for the life of us where they go. If someone knows, or could offer some suggestions as to where they go, please tell me.

Thanks so much in advance.

Beau

The squiggly wire goes in the very bottom of the handle, leaving the loop sticking out the bottom when the 2 halves are screwed back together. This is for tying a floatline to the gun. I don't recognise the other part, but it looks like a guard that would be alongside the trigger mechanism.

man, i knew it had to be something simple.
here's another stupid question from a newbie:
How do you guys normally secure the leash that goes from the barrel to the shaft so it doesn't get in the way of anything before you shoot?

There should be a small trigger-shaped retainer sticking out the side of the handle: loop the line back around it after the shaft is locked into place. There is a rubber part to the shockline that will allow you to stretch the line tightly over the retainer When you pull your trigger, the mechanism will open and the line will release at the same time as the shaft.

FYI - That little flat peice of metal is actually a shim that makes the gun handle/trigger assembly and the barell fit better and straighter -In other words not cocked and or able to "wiggle". It would be wise to put the shim back in in my opinion - but it is a little bit difficult to do as the shim is in there under pressure or kinda "wedged in" and "bent" or "formed" around/between the inner diameter of the barrell and the outer diameter of the handle where they join and get screwed together...If that makes sense to you!

Takes any "wiggle" outta the gun basically.

I just wish I could shoot a thinner diameter spear outta the JBL's.

thanks for all the help.
especially about the line. some things are right in front of your face and you still can't figure it out.
bgill - I'll try and put that shim back in. we'll see.

Can't wait to go out and get me some dinner.
