Hello there, my names Hal, and im a school student who has just finished his tech project of making a speargun, ive made the trigger mech and gun and all, and it works. Only thing left to do is put a finish on the gun, its made from teak, and ive seen stuff on here about coating it in epoxy, which i don't understand? I live in New Zealand so i probably wont have access to a lot of products that you guys may recommend, but will tung oil do the trick? or if you have a better idea, please elaborate

I've never made guns, but I've used Tung oil to maintain them. Its a lot easier than epoxy and it works fine. If you chip an epoxy finish, then water gets under it and your only option is to sand it all off and start over. If you get a ding in a teak gun that doesn't have epoxy, you can just rub a little Tung oil on it to darken it.

Its really just matter of cosmetics, but when I had a couple of Riffe guns, I'd rub some Tung oil on whenever they began to look bleached out, maybe every six months.

cheers, thanks for the help. Ive been doing some other research and im definatley going for a tung oil finish.
