I train with a bloke that just got some glue from Leaderfins recently to fix a mono. I'll ask him what it is when I see him this weekend.

Cheers,
Ben

cyanacrilate type glue, available under various market brands, is popular here for footpocket-to-blade securing.
(I hope it helps cause I don't know what a chen bin is)

Jay where is the rubber coming away? If it is coming away from the blade then yes i'd probably use cyano acrylate (monofin manufacturer sent me some with my last fin too), but don't use it for a rubber on rubber connection (such as the heel strap) as it goes very hard and brittle. I made that mistake on my mono once before! Luckily it was only a small patch I glued.

Cheers,
Ben

sorry guys its on the heel strap (rubber to rubber)
does any one have a contact e mail address for chen bin i have looked but with no success
thanks ben / spagetti

Hi,

I've used Loctite 406, which I guess is cyano acrylate, succesfully for small patchwork, also rubber to rubber. But I don't take responsibility if you break your strap Better to try it on some waste pieces of rubber first at least.

I know some finswimmers that use some kind of fancy 2 component glue, so I can ask if you don't get the needed info elsewhere. But I think it's something that's ordered in big batches from Russia in unmarked bottles and is illegal in most countries (they are pretty heavy users). Probably some local finswimmer might be able to help you out as well? No point buying pints (I don't think it comes in very small packages) of it when you only need so little.

We have had some sucess using Bostik 2402 plus the crosslinking agent.

I have rebuilt the footstrap on a waterway glide and a leader hyper using 2402 and have not had a failure so far.

I would suggest using the method where you coat both surfaces, allow it to dry, then heat with a heat gun and press together.

There is lots of advice on inflatable boat sites on repair using contact adhesive.

I've been regularly repairing my Non-axial fin (hyper-style) with superglue gel - but I can't help but think theres got to be something better - ever for the rubber to blade connection. It seems like a strong yet somewhat flexible glue would be better - something like construction/drywall glue that has just enough give to not be brittle.

Any recommendations for a glue that would be effective for gluing the heelstraps on a monofin together? Name and availability would be great!

i have successfuly used contact glue on my fin
i applied glue to both surfaces watched till it cured (changed colour) then compressed both surfaces for a short while then i left it for several hours and it is a realy good fix

What kind of contact glue? Was it flexible when dried and resistant to water?

Bostic 2402 is a contact adhesive and remains flexible. Heelstraps reglued using this glue/technique has now done 100s of dives and have not failed yet. With my WW glide I increased the size of the footpocket (was a 260 and I should have ordered a 290) which means that the overlap of the heelstrap onto the footpocket is only 3/4". That has done about 75 dives and no sign of coming loose.

Bostik 2402 is a contact adhesive but is a two part product (part B being a crosslinking agent called Desmodur). I have used other, more mainstream one part contact adhesives and Isocyanate Glue (Superglue) in the past with generally variable results.

If you cannot find a source for Bostik 2402 locally I would suggest you find someone in your area who repairs inflatable boats and find out what the local equivalent is. 2402 is used to repair inflatable boats manufactured from Hypalon.

The method I use is the reheat method, where you apply two thin coats to both sides of the job (after sanding with 40 grit) allowing to dry so that it is non-tacky to the back of your hand in between and after the 2nd coat.

I then gently heat with a hot air gun (can use a hairdryer) and stick together. Note that if you have prepared the joint correctly you must get it right first time (you cannot reposition).

More detail on the methods can be found searching on the net for 'repair methods - inflatable boats'.
