Hi all, am looking for some info'. I get a problem with ear-pressure pain when I try for any depth. holding the nose and blowing dose,'t help, what is this Frenzel technique? What exercises can one enploy to increase lung capacity? And , finally, I snorkell around rocks and gullies getting in is ok,out,is another matter. Are there any fins/flippers whereby you can detach (easily) the fin, and be left with the shoe portion? This would be great for climbing out and walking on sharp rock.:crutch.jopras

Hey,

If You look through the freediving technique section in the equalization sub section there is a link to a video on the washington university site which You will find very helpful.

as for the fins... no fin is all things to all men. Sounds like you need neoprene booties and then just take ya fins off... or if You have no dignity or self respect whatsoever You can keep some 'Crocs' on Your float :D

And some more resources are available here: equalizing @ APNEA.cz
From what you wrote, it looks like you are diving without equalizing at all (you wrote pinching and blowing does not help, hence you actually do not equalize). One of frequent reasons is that you do it too late and too softly. Do not try to clear your ear violently at depth, but if you can do it on surface, you'll be able doing it in depth too. Just do not wait too long - you best begin on the surface and then repeat frequently all time you descend. Watch the video linked above by fflupo - it contains some excellent tips.
