Help! Wetsuit Irritation!

I am not sure if that is my case, since I've used nylon2 suits and open cell (never got any irritation with those types), I think my issue is definitely related to the ink (or metalite) used by Picasso. Since I get irritation where there is hardly any hair. So I think in my case the lycra suit would work but I have not try it my self. Also the hashes are worse if the water is warmer.

Again just another point of view.

I've heard the metallite lining causes problems from a few people now. And the rash is everywhere, esp. lower back and the backs of my knees.

Next time I get in the water I'm going to try a different lube and I'll allow water to flow in every 1/2 hour or so.

try it let me know if it works - I use baby soap in my suit and i never get a rash - i do however if i dont use enough!! So maybe your lube will work - i wouldent put the water in though then you are washing the lube out the suit and back to square 1. I will ask my friends if they found a solution.

Does your Pimple like bumps coincide with hair follicles? Even if the hair is very light there or almost non existant. If so its a common thing for wetsuit wearers called folliculitis. Or infection of the hair follicles. It tends to look like small white heads on hair follicles. Sometimes its deep under the skin and can create heated hard nodules. If you get these hard nodules and they get bigger than 3 cm in diameter under the skin see a doctor, as one of the common causes of this are the Staph bacteria.

The best prevention is simply rinse your suit and dry it outside in the sun inside out. The sun will dry the suit and help kill any of the Bacteria/Fungi that are causing your rash. I have found that Hibicleanse and a slight bleach solution scrubbed on the wetsuit rids the infestation. Then simple cleaning of the suit and drying in the sun keep it from coming back. Test a sample of hibicleanse on your skin first to make sure you arent sensitive to it. For the record Hibiclease is what hospitals give patients who are exposed to Flesh eating or MRSA bacteria. Its the best.

You are probably correct, the bump will coincide with the hair, since I don't have the same problem with nylon2 or open cell suits, that leads me to beleive that the thermic ink is more susceptible to acumulated bacteria then the other types.

When I am in a dive trip, I just can't afford the time to dry the suit since the dive will end late at night and will start early the next morning.

About the bump it is good to know, mine just disappeared when I came back to AK two weeks later.

Thanks for the info

BUMP

I'm having issues with an opencell Elios suit that I use for winter. My summer suit, also Elios, has Black-shadow lining and gives me no issues at all, but the bare rubber on the inside of my winter suit is giving me the worst rash after I dive- mainly on my arms.

I've taken to trying to kill anyhting living in it with bleach and plenty of fresh air. I've purchased new lube, but may try something else to see if it works better. I might try the baby shampoo suggestion since I have that in the house. Elios reccomended personal lubricant, but my wife was cracking up at the idea of me going into the store to buy a gallon of KY for diving.rofl

Orignally, I thought that I would just buy a new suit- but that's taking longer than I thought to get here and I need to go diving this weekend.

Nylon inner lining will NOT work as the water around here is too cold- been down that path before.

Any other lube suggestions that I cna buy locally- no time to wait for an internet order.

Thanks,

Jon

hey jon you may want to try this i use it and it aint to much u can go to gander or a place like that and but sent away body and hair its green in color thats what i use in my suit and works great and it also gets rid or your sent body and pee so you dont smell like you just crawled out of a toilet. but if you do go buy a gallon of ky please take a pic of that cause that would be funniest thing i have seen. i can see it now jon walkes into the store and says yes i need a gallon of ky please LOL rofl

Almost 6 years old.

I used some of the body lotion we put on the kids after a bath today instead of the hair conditioner that I normally use. My arms seem a little bit better so far. We'll have to see how it works nxt time.

Six years, I think the age of the suit can be a factor (I am not sure about your case), since you have that happen with more then one suit. But it is something to consider, perharps trying someone else suit.

I only have an issue with this suit. My summer suit causes me no problems- it has black shadow coating over the opencell.

The different type of lube I used today seemed to help a bit, but after 6 years I think I deserve a new suit- at least that's what I'm telling my wife.

I've been pleasantly surprised that the suit has lasted this long- seeing ashow it's opencell inside and smoothskin outside with no fabric backing on it anywhere. My 3mm suit, made of the same material, was blown apart after less than 2 years. I think the thickness (6mm) of the suit has something to do with that.

I wonder if the rubber starts to get gummy after a period of time???

It still kept me pretty warm in 40f degree water for almost three hours today- my toes froze out first. :crutch

40 F is really cold, I think the coldest I've done was 49F, since there was no fish around and the water was very murky I am not doing it again !

One of friends in Brazill claim he needs to replace his wet suit every two years to avoid skin problems, that was the basis for my suggestion, but I always took it with a grain of salt !

Don't you live in Alaska??? rofl

Our best vis is in the winter so I try and do the majority of my diving then. Summer time is nice in Lake Michigan, but even that lake gets MUCH clearer in the winter time- over 150' of vis on a good winter's day.

Right now we've got a big snowstorm coming in- so I'm glad I dove yesterday. Hopefully I'll get out again next weekend- but I think my wife might have a list of things for me to do then.

The new suit is coming- it'll just take a couple weeks more for it to get here.

yes I am Alaska, but the I like fish killing and there is no fish when the water is cold ! But the best water is around 30 feet viz.

When I started freediving I used to get the pimples/nodules (potentially staph?) usually under my armpits after a few days of diving... On someone's recommendation, I started adding a few squirts of Hibiclens to my lube mixture each time, and haven't had any problems since. I also dry the suit inside-out in direct sunlight for 15 minutes or so after washing it, to kill anything else that may be living on there.
