I am going to be using aluminum tubing for the shaft. I plain on making it about 45" long. Please Help.

Hallo .......... i suggest to look the site of my friend Persiko ( www.arbalegno.com ). There you'll find some great idea to realiza speargun .
Inside there is a little guide that i make to realize a trigger mechanism.
You will found a model of a new trigger mechanism that i am testing in my last gun.

Bye

IMO, I would wait to be more experienced with commercial spearguns. It's easy to make a gun, but make a good gun is harder. Using them will learn you a lot of things such as ballast, ballance, open muzzle or not, barrell shape, size and lenght, rail or not, shaft size, with notch or not, bands size and lenght, handle type...

It takes a lot of time to build a gun, so be sure to know what you're getting into.

Good work

I build spearguns for a living, and without the proper knowledge and experience you could really hurt yourself or others. If you build one yourself do not use the Kitto trigger, that trigger is for very powerful guns. I would urge you to use a reliable yet easy to set trigger, like a Seahornet. They are relativly easy to set and you would not be prone to overload it. They work well with two 5/8" bands, and that is plenty of power for most fish. What alot of people do not understand is that unless you have the right tools(jigs, mill, routers) you will end up spending what a commercialy made gun would cost. Unless you are making a bluewater gun, you can usually find a good used gun for less that it would cost a normal person to make one.

If u still want to build one yourself p.m. I'll help out
