I bought this reel for my 48" JBL woody. The only thing is that i don't know for sure which way to face the reel on my gun. I think i know which way but i just wanted to see if anyone else has this reel or knows how to install it properly. it has that stop, on the right of the reel, with the spring on it which doesn't let the line come out freely. if someone could help me out i would appreciate it. A picture of the reel should be shown below.

That is a old Riffe design sold by Aqua Craft, If you chose to leave the spool lock on, face the square pull back at you. Many of use took off the spool lock as if a big fish is pull very hard the release is a bitch to pull. Some pro freedivers us the lock feature to keep Pargo from the cave but this can be fatal to the diver.

Cheers, Don

I had one of those many years ago, and when I shot a giant black sea bass, I couldn't release that spool lock in time. The gun was almost torn from my hands before the crimp was stripped off of the back of the slip tip cable.

You aren't likely to shoot a very big fish with that gun, but its something to keep in mind.
