hi guys - so here it is hot off the press via a forwarded email to the assembly from Sebastian:

Report WR attempts

Long Island, Bahamas

Herbert Nitsch

Judges Nicolas Laporte, Sebastian Naslund

The athlete has done successful attempts in VWT 142, FIM 112, CWT 123

Pending doping test.

All attempts were easy to judge.

The VWT was a bit tricky since the athlete did not use a sled, he just
went down with a weight (+camera).

Since there is no more "the sled has to be within 3 meters from the
bottomplate". We took the common sense decision that one part of the
athlete must reach the required depth (in this case 142 meters).
Hopefully this will be demanded in future attempts, either it is with
or without sled.

The athlete will "release" the news on his Webpage.

Sebastian

So is doping so frequent in the sport that its a concern?

I've lost interest in track and field, weight lifting, American baseball, and a few others that don't immediately come to mind over use of drugs.

Its a shame that people have to cheat in a sport such as freediving where the payoff is relatively insignificant.

hehe!! Told you I had all my bets on Herbert this year :)

Awesome results... I cant wait for his next No-Limits dive...

Hey, This seems to imply that there's a doubt as to whether Herbert would pass the doping test. I'm not sure I understand where that comes from if that's your intention.

Maybe clarify if it is not?

To answer your question Bill. Dope doesn't seem to be a problem in free diving. Part of the reason is that all record setters must be tested. Same as aviation. Random testing might only be about twenty years old but I supplied body fluids 1-4 times a year for forty years. I don't think that they were only used to water plants at the doctor's office.

Sorry to confuse - didn't mean to imply that at all Pete - no, I just meant to be clear that the WR's are not official until those tests come back.

I think Herbert is one of the top divers because of hard-work and discipline.

His new records are quite a feat :)
