Herbert Nitsch declines AIDA Judges

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Not a concern. In fact, it might be a good thing, considering the risk of such depths.

Once he is successful, we will all know who the deepest man is... And I'm SURE YouTube will have a nicely produced video that is likely to go viral.

Besides - not many ppl want / are able to compete with Herbert in this discipline, so the record shouldn't be contested for a while.

Maybe when someone gets close / beats it, he will want a dive sanctioned with AIDA judges.

Well, Seb Murat dives FRC NLT in about the same time. He pre-announced 214m I believe (equal to the current Herb's WR), but who knows what he has in the sleeve. However, that's no AIDA either. Looks like AIDA can definitely remove NLT, since nobody seems to care about having such records sanctioned officially.

It's becoming a trend not to have judges present at NLT WR attempts. Musimu, Seb, Herbert, Francisco (well judges from his own organization).

I'm not sure what to think of it at the moment.

Let's see what do judges supposedly offer?
- peer Verification. Like peer reviews in science.

To avoid picking on anyone in particular, I think just a video will not be enough to convince me their record is valid. So I'm sure the current WR NLT will not be broken for now, just a few well publicized - very deep - personal best.

Marketing a few unaffordable watches, the only thing you need is a crowd some flashy shots, hype, decent setting, cheering athlete or actor and people believe it's a valid World Record.

Let's hope they keep it safe and they maintain honesty towards their peers and themselves.

AIDA should focus on competitions and education. That's what they are good at and is in th e most interest of the sport. Those few sled records that are going on these days are in the same category as O2 static world records; it's a 'scientific' show (still good shows by the way) and has little to do with sport.

As far as I know the yellow suunto-shirts are not mandatory for the judges. So where's the problem? Don't they sell tshirts in santorin anymore? Shouldn't be the problem to get shirts without 'Suunto' written on them.

What does this have to do with Greece out of curiosity? Lol

There is a related announcement by Kimmo for anyone interested: Herbert Nitsch’s No-Limits Record Attempt – AIDA International

Mostly because Greece is bordering on broke these days. It probably didn't make sense.

:ban Blah, this is ridiculous. I'm sure that some final edited YouTube-version of what ever depth Herbert hopefully reaches could've excluded any frame illustrating that other watch maker's brand on any judge's uniform. But OTOH I'm sure Herbert just want to focus on the diving and not on sponsorship BS.
