hi there, iam an apnoist from germany, and startet now even diving into the deep (20m). actually i go down with my normal apnoe diving mask, but i want to try now to go down with noseclip and fluid goggle.
question number one: if i go down with noseclip it bathers me so much while coming up, who has experiences with leaving the noseclip off after touching the ground?
question number two: whats your experiences going down with normal swimming goggles putting water into before going down?
question number three: who could share some experiences with the special fluid goggles from greece or new zealand?
hope to hear u soon
O2 regards from silvia

wow how fare away you are -while sharing the same passion for the sea, are u an apnoist/ sparefisher, i guess while living so near to the sea:)??

Hello Sylvia, welcome to DB. At 20m you do not really need to bother about nose-clip or fluid goggles. Perhaps when you find you can no more progress in your compensation technique, it may be the time to think about it, but even if you compensate with simple Valsalva or Frenzel, you can go much deeper.

If you remove the nose-clip at the bottom plate, and have contractions, or are already in negative depth (where your lungs are compressed below its residual volume), you could inhale water, or it may get into your sinus, which may cause some troubles and panic feelings. It's better waiting till you reach the positive depth on the ascent, and removing it then. Or to prevent the building-up of overpressure in sinus due to the nose-clip and closed soft-palate, try as if you wanted to inhale through the nose -it will open the soft palate, and let escape the overpressure into the lungs.

hey thank u so much, that sounds obvious to inhale with the noseclip to alleviate the overpressure in sinus! cos i like going down with noseclip so u got both arms free- and i will try to go with swimming goggles filled with water!
i joined the cz competition this spring, have u been there?
maybe we will meet at the RMC in Wiesbaden-Germany in October 02!

HI Silvi

SCHN....... Welcome on Deeperblue, it is a great place to learn. Especially if u are so dedicated to freedivng as u are. And not so lazy as i am.
We see us Tuesday in Deep Blue Siegburg, hehehe.

Welcome from Texas! I'd give up the nose clip altogether.

Welcome Silvia!

I agree with Trux, at 20m you really don't need fluid goggles and nose-clip. In fact I think it's a big disadvantage with today's models diving in cold German waters. The cold in your face will very likely freeze up your muscles in your head preventing equalisation.

Buy a Sphera, a Minima, Alien, Micromask or Super Occio, and you should be able to dive to 50+ with ease.

Also on Deeperblue there are various threads about equalisation and hands free equalisation, see if you can learn them!

Oh and yes I've dived with fluid goggles in cold water, and sub tropical. After equalisation at depth I did take the nose-clip off, but still held my throat closed, and it was fine at 30m in 18c water. But I highly discourage it for anyone who has not the ability to dive at least 50m CWT with good comfort. In other words NOT for beginners!
Follow Trux advise!

On a side note about Fluid Goggles. The model I used last time did offer me only a very narrow field of vision, with distortions. I recommend using these only for safer situations, such as proper CB system, lanyard, safety divers in clear and well lit, warm water. In German lakes such as Hemmoor I think it will be an additional safety problem.

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

Hi Kars,
i am looking for the fluid goggels cos i am going to dahab - in november to a deep diving training thats why. and i do my deep diving training in a 20m diving tank rather than in a dark and cold german sea. but thank u all so much its lot of fun talking to such old experienced apnoe solders:t....i can learn a lot from u!!
Silvia
