Hey all. My name is Christian, im from Alabama. Im new to the forum as well as the diving/spearfishing scene. Im a big fisher and really just ready to take my expierience to the next step. If you have any information to help me on my way to diving please feel free to comment.

Hi Christian, welcome to DB.

You live in a great area for learning to spearfish.

I grew up in Mobile, diving Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Destin, etc. Not sure about now, but then you could put a bunch of fish in the cooler. Do you know where the various wrecks are off Gulf Shores?

Been to a couple but, I have a fishing chart from a relative that covers around 200 spots from texas to the florida and they are all labeled by reef or wreck with the coordinance. But yeah I am big into kayak fishing and just want to get more up close and personal with sea life and want some excitement. Still really dont know too much about how to rig spearguns and the whole setup but am trying to find out so i can order the stuff by next week and start going hopefully by the 3rd week of this month.

For your area, especially inshore, a relatively short pole gun is way more effective than a gun. I laughed at my buddies when they all switched to poleguns while I was away at college, until we went diving and they outshot me about 3 to 1. Scubapro used to make a 5 or 6 ft fiberglass pole gun, bullet proof construction and perfect for your area.

You can get some good info on yaks and local diving from Bobby Andrews who runs a canoe/kayak shop in Mobile, old diving buddy of mine.

I live in Navarre. Hit me up. I work offshore but when I'm home I freedive and sling spears daily. There's a few of our kind where we live but it leaves alo of hunting to less people!

Hello and welcome on DB... For info there are lots of them just search for it here and you will get dizzy... We would love to see your trip pics and share your info...

All best
