I discovered spearfishing by watching an episode of Dual Survival where Dave Canterbury made a pole spear. I thought to myself, "I can make one of those!", and so I did. I used a 5 foot piece of bamboo that was fairly sturdy, a bow-fishing tip, and an exercise band (looked like surgical tubing). I used 100 mph tape to tape on the band and the tip and I've nailed quite a few fish with it before I bought a cheap, 6 foot, fiberglass pole spear.

I started out using scuba fins. I was using Apollo Bio Fin Pro XT. Until I get my new wetsuit, I've been diving with a 7mm Henderson step-in jacket and wearing multi-cam pants and shirt for some camo (even though it obviously doesn't make me hydrodynamic at all).

I recently bought a pair of Riffe Silent Hunter fins and I ordered one of their cryptic camo suits.

I would really like to learn more about freediving techniques. Specifically breathing preparation. I'm able to be fairly relaxed compared to a "normal" person in the water since I've had that combat diver training, but I feel I should refine and adjust my skill. I definitely consider myself a beginner freediver and spearfisherman.

I would like to start taking trips to the ocean for spearfishing.

I am officially addicted to spearfishing.

Looking for people to go spearfishing and freediving with. I have a lot to learn.

Thanks,
Gavin
