Hey there ! I'm Erdi, I'm 17 and I live in London.
I was 13 when I was first allowed to use a spear gun, every year I go to North Cyprus with my family and my dad finally let me take a few shots with the spear gun. My family in Cyprus don't consider it a serious sport, we don't have any equipment like the general equipment which is discussed about on these forums, it's just something for them to do when they go out for a picnic but I really took an interest in it and it quickly became my most preferred hobby.

Anyway, the following year my dad decided to get me my own speargun, a Mares Cyrano 700. I still use it when I go on my yearly holiday to North Cyprus. It's a decent sized spear gun for the sized fish we manage to come across.
Unfortunately my dad and my uncles arn't able to dive very deep, for some reason they're not able to 'equalize' the air pressure in their ears and also i've managed to develop a greater lung capacity than them too so when we go spearfishing the depth we dive to is very limited, it's only around 9 metres and i'm not able to go beyond that as I don't want to go by myself :(
The fish we catch are very small compared to some of the fish i've seen when typing in 'spearfishing' on youtube lol. I would really love to dive deeper, just not by myself !

Only a week ago I came across 'freediving' on the net and thought 'wow ! now that's what I need to be doing !'
Ever since I was young I've always loved diving to the bottom of the pool and swimming from one end to the other, seeing how far I can go before I need to come up for air and I was generally quite good at it, better than the other people around me. Untill I saw freediving on the internet that is, then I realised I wasn't the only one with this interest, I realised there are tons of other people doing this amazing sport 'freediving'.

So I thought I'd join this forum hoping to find out some more information and maybe meet some more people who share the same interest as me.

I want to be able to experience different fish and different areas and get a guide to which equipment would be best to use and which areas are best to dive in. I'm sure I can get most of the information I need from this forum :)

I'm looking forward to meeting some new people and finding out about their experiences !
Thanks for reading, sorry if it was a bit long :p
Erdi !

Dear Erdi,
Welcome to Deeper Blue. Your post was very interesting and I'm glad that you want to learn more about the sport! I believe that this forum is the best resource for accurate information on safe freediving and spearfishing techniques as well as a great place to make friends.
I have been freediving for over thirty years and it never gets boring. I always have something new and exciting to learn!
I hope to read some more about your experiences.
Regards,
Argo (Craig)

welcome aboard Erdi. You will be amazed by how much you have in common with so many of us from all over the world. I'm glad you have stumbled upon this website. You'll make some really good friends here.
Watch out for Ildiver and Whopperhead. They have been diving in the mud for way too long. Zero visibility seems to cloud your judgement.rofl

haha thanks for the warm welcome :)
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone possible :p

I started at 13 as well & then we were stationed (USAF) far away from the coast. Trips came along less & less but now I'm gleefully entering my self proclaimed mid-life crisis and spearing much more. Keep at it & even though life's stuff gets in the way alwys find some time to get out & hunt. Or sometimes just dream & keep touch on DB.
