Been freediving for a while now and looking for techniques to increase my bottom time and overall depth. Hope to exchange some stories and get some good advice.

Yes I do spearfish, we just had an annual spearfishing competition on Saturday and I had a great day fishing with friends actually won a brand new Riffe Euro 110X complete with reel in the raffle which made myweekend so much greater. Shot cubera snapper, mutton snapper, black grouper, spanish mackerel and a decent sized barracuda so all in all I had a great time. The only thing is the competition is open to tank dives as well so we only came third in the black grouper category. I was wondering about international competitions and the formats used for scoring points as well as ensuring that competitors are restricted to either freediving or tank dives. I was hoping to host a freedive only spearfishing competition sometime in April next year when our water clears up a bit in the dry season.

Send me a ticket and I'll help judge, cook, wash dishes, whatever! rofl

Hi and welcome. Your welcome grabbed my attention as I was born in Tuna Puna where my Dad worked for a while. Returned a few years ago to Marry on Tobago and visited Trinidad whilst we were there. I was too young to remember the island. Did some snorkelling on Tobago. Lovely clear waters and so warm! Sad that it is so far away!

These are some pics from the tournament, unfortunately the only thing that we could bring to scale was the grouper 10lbs which won us third prize for the black grouper category. The piture of the Goliath grouper 291lbs was shot off an oil platform with tanks. Guys shot a 130lb Tarpon as well however there was no tarpon category this year.

Papachoonks, I have a good friend going to Tobago on 15th September. He booked accommodation in the Bamboo Walk Hotel. Unfortunately he is neither spearo nor freediver, but would like to make a scuba course. If you (or anyone else here on the forum) have any recommendations for him regarding the choice of the diving center, or other tips for restaurants, trips, etc, it would be very appreciated.

Thank you,
Ivo
