Though i introduce myself,
Im Pat 24 years old and been spearfishing for about 4 years, on and off.
Just got myself a 3rd speargun yesterday - Orca thula 120cm. will test it out next week at my yearly trip to the south coast - green Island.

I havent used a reel before and planning to get one for the orca speargun.
But for now i have to go without one, so i was wondering how big of a fish can u spear with out extra line from reel?

Cheers guys

Welcome. I'd say no bigger than you would be fine with grabbing and taking to the surface without a good shot placement. Some fish just don't wanna die.

Great gun, 2 shots and 2 decent size fish, a decent black fish and a 3-4 kg tailor
very happy with the gun and its accuracy. Fish were delicious bit of butter lemon rap them in foil and on a hot plate she goes.

Now planning on getting a RIB or a jet ski and go for the big fish...
just sharks are a bit of a worry, hence wondering how reliable are those sharp shields? any one use them?[/FONT]
