hi and first gun

hi there. been lurking around here for a while and have just sorted out all my spearfishing gear. didnt have a gun and didnt want to buy one so i decided i could make one for cheaper.
so hear it is. sorry for all the fotos, thought i would document what i did and how ect and see if i could get any advice
wanted a gun for the south island of nz were it is often murky and the fish arnt that big, also wanted to make a bigger one for the north island.( that one is still in the making)
started with a piece of gum (eucalyptus) cut some laminates and some rimu ( nz wood) and some jarra.
laminated that all together. added some little wings to the front to allow the bands to be more in line with the spear

has wing nuts since i only have on trigger right now for two guns. once i have another trigger ill get rid of them. have to change the nuts to the other side to since they will be in the way of the line.

just waiting for the line and some crimps so i can set that up. made everything myself. finding spring steal for for spears is a nightmare
now just to go diving with it

yep abalone inlay. or paua as we call them. still need more epoxy on them to make them flush though
it just sinks in a level plane in fresh water with the spear and floats without it.
