Patagonia!! They speak Welsh there!!! Croeso :D

I find that incredibly odd. Is it a popular language there, or are there a lot of Welsh tourists?

Speaking of languages...You and the Sander never cease to amaze. Being from Texas, I certainly could use more than a few Spanish lessons.

Although I have no problem telling people how to prepare my food in Spanish (cause I'm a fatty)

I tried to learn Spanish in high school, but our teacher was a total freakoid and taught us how to do nothing else but 1970's disco line-dances such as "the Hustle".....sadly, I'm not even kidding. She was fired immediately before finals and our failing grades were removed from the records. Last time I try getting an education in a small Californian town.

I digress, as usual. I have two friends from Patagonia who make it to Texas every now and then. Beautiful place. Glad to know there's some breath-holders there, as well!

I believe a load of welsh setlers landed there when the english and scots were invading America on the Mayflower, well trust the Welsh to pick the cold option :duh Well Im told it is a popular language there, maybe Ale can fill us in?

ja ja !!! not afrikaans, but sure a welsh community here where i live, in Puerto Madryn, they came because of a religion persecution ( is that ok? ) also we have a lot of inmigrants from all the world, their sons by now...
Here i freedive in some lakes and in the Peninsula Valdez, its cool ( and cold !! ) but with a good wetsuit its OK, i dive with small black and white dolphins and sea lions, diving with whales is not permitted, but they are very close...
Con respecto a las clases de español, podriamos tener algunas discusiones en este idioma en el foro de DB, podria ser buena practica para aquellos que quieren mejorar su español.
Gracias a todos por la bienvenida...
Ale

Thanks Ale
Im Welsh myself, some freinds of my mum went to visit Patagonia a few years ago, I think there is still a strong connection between the two countries :)
And yeah, religious persicution is fine as long as its not aimed at me ;) (of course its not really but in the context you gave its fine mate :D)

Well, we have a couple of Welsh communities here, they speak their own language between the oldest, and they celebrate some parties like the EISTEDVODT ( bad written i think ) and we have many towns with welsh names...TREVELIN, TRELEW, PTO MADRYN,

I would imagine so, Im no expert but I seem to remember hearing that there was a chapel revival around that time and differents parts of it hounded the others out of their homes, I'll ask some oth the locals to see if they know anything

Well Alison, i hope that one day you could come here to see all this, i really love the Patagonia and is a wonderful place to freedive, i want to organize an open here, but don't know when, because freediving is not popular here and i need to promote it first, to generate some interest and to perform new freedivers. But you're invited !!!!

I would love to go spearfishing there someday.
