Hi everyone, i just found the forums here and really want to have a go and get back in the water, i was going to dig out my old snorkelling gear and my wakeboarding wetsuit, snag a rob allen 80 scorpia off that crystalvis site and just drive down to portland or swannage and see how it goes.

i feel quite comfortable in the water but it occurred to me last night that all my experience is in the med/fresh water, and i know nothing about tides and currents, is there a primer for that sort of thing, or do you just be careful and aware? i've definitely heard stories or surfers being swept out and presumably they know whats up.

i'm thinking it's a good idea not to go alone at least, but none of my mates seem as excited at the prospect as i do, so i thought i'd jump on here and say hi, see if anyone had any advice for me.
