Hi, I'm Janet, 42 yrs.old. I live in Ca. with my husband and two boys. My husband and I dive. I love to fish. My husband let me buy a 26' fishing boat recently and I'm having a blast! I haven't been diving in about seven years (it's kind of hard with little kids). I'm dying to get back into the water. I have to get in shape first though. I'm enjoying the forums on this site.

Hi Janet,
Where in California do you live? If you're in the SoCal area, there a number of landlocked spearos who would love to help you with gas and anchor pulling. :D

I am re-entering diving and will begin by freediving freshwater near my home in Stockton, primarily from a fishing kayak (Hobie Adventure). Later when skills, confidence, and conditioning warrant I will hit the saltwater. I plan to spearfish and harvest abalone and spiny lobster. From time to time I am in the Los Angeles area and intend to fish and dive in that area as well.

I am looking for ideas for places to freshwater freedive and, if it is legal, spearfish. Suggestions?

Thanks.

StocktonDon

Hi Don,
For information related to where and how you can spearfish near Stockton, go to the nearest large sporting goods store and buy a copy of the Fishing Regulations put out by the DFG. I believe that you will find that in fresh water, only carp are legal to spearfish. However, when you get downriver to the Bay, then you come under saltwater regs and the world's you mollusc of choice.

Thanks. I will be checking DFG and seeing if any other non-game fish are legal to spearfish. Wonder about the pike up in Davis Lake that DFG has been trying to kill for years? Maybe some other pest species?? I will post what I find out. Thanks.
