Last January I was down in Gili T (small Island near Bali... total paradise) and discovered a Total Apnea beginner free diving course. Took it and got down to 11 meters. Honestly it was a bit disappointed b/c the others in the class easily hit 20. I have problems equalizing.

Regardless, I loved what I was able to do (11m still ain't shabby), and plan to hit it up hard again this coming January in Thailand. I just found here looking for basic training info that I can do in the meantime.

At this point I want to work on my breath hold, some basic equalization tech (found this: on equalizing), some swim techniques that I can work on in the pool, and find out what basic gear I should collect before I head down to Thailand. Though by far equalization is priority for me, as I know it's my crux.

Glad I found this place! A clearly very big, and very well established forum for free diving info. Tons of great info! Can't wait to kill more time in the office reading up!

Hi and welcome to DB. For equalizing learn the Frenzel Technique. You can download an article which explains it very well. It can take some time to learn, but you can also practice it out of the water. Once you learn it it's easy and very effective, no force required: Visit this link and then Liquivision : Freediving : equalizing download the article where it says "Frenzel Fattah Equalizing Workshop".

The best thing about 11 meters is that it your personal best!
SO yes, 11 meters is great!!!
SO now you have a figure to try to beat, welcome to DB!!!

Quick forum questions:

1) how do I change my avatar?

2) now that I've replied to a few threads I'm also 'subscribed' to all of them, and so am receiving quite a few e-mails daily. Is it possible to 'unsubscribe', or change my subscription options?

Go to "User CP" on the menu just above the forum. On the left it has the link to your avatar and subscriptions mate.
