Hard to beat islands if you like diving/kayaking/fishing. There are quite a few Channel Islanders on the forum, esp. Guerns - I think you might be the first Manx member (if not, then almost certainly the first Manx member in Malta

I am from the Isle of Man, and moved to Malta about one year ago (warmer seas. 32 Male and consider myself a beginner in freediving.

I was looking at kayaks the other day actually, bit pricey. But an open top kayak would beat an Omer float anyday.
It would appear I am probably the only Manx in Malta. I set up a facebook group, advertised it where no-one seems interested or are Manx in Malta.

I havent much freediving experience, I have a training blog which was recently set-up. There seems to be ALOT of resources on these forums which I am pleased

Spearfishing: Introduction
The 'All the Gear No Idea' blog pretty much sums it up really :girlie
It is a learning experience, one I am trying to do as safely as possible. There is one freediving school in Malta but they dont seem to answer emails or are not open consistently for me to bus it or call by phone. Thus far I can only hold my breath for 1 minute above water.
I have however, met up with a gentleman who has offered to go diving together. This is great, however I would like to be able to dive for at least 1-2minutes comfortably first. Holding breath under water I have found is alot different to holding breath above the sea.
With freediving in mind, I have only dived the seas on two occasions.

Looks promising .
I wouldn't get too hung up on bottom times if your interest is spear-fishing. I find my down-times naturally increase during a trip out (i.e. first dive of the day is usually poor but later in the day everything becomes more relaxed...usually I go out for 1.5-4 hours-ish at a time). Also, I find my down-times improve over the course of the season, e.g. early in the season everything is a bit rusty and all the old & new gear needs to be sorted out and "bedded in" but by the end of the season, things are usually getting quite smooth, stream-lined and relaxed.
