Hello Freedivers!!

I'm Roger. I live in Marina del Rey and love the water. I body surf, have a PADI Advanced Open Water certification and use an Alpacka Raft in the surf on big wave days.

I read the last issue of Outside and was spellbound by the story of those two boys down in Louisiana(my home state). I started kicking around on Amazon and the internet and have gotten really interested. I'm hoping to learn a little more and see if spear fishing and free diving is a sport for me. It sounds awesome!

I love the West Coast water. Lots of people are put off by the cold. To me that just means I'm just a wetsuit away from an uncrowded beach.

I hope there are some freedivers in my area who could help me learn more about this.

Welcome, you sound like a prime candidate!
Something about cold water that's hard to explain to those that don't like it.
There are some good guys on DB the West coast that will step up here I'm sure.

Welcome from Texas! I don't really care if it's not too cold--our problem is clarity!

Welcome Roger this April4-7 09 Performance Freediving has a class here in Southern Calif

Thanks for the replies.

I'm definitely interested in taking a class. And I'm tearing through the section in the forum for beginners. I just wish I could practice a little right now. Instead I'm stuck wandering around the French Quarter sampling Abita and seafood. **Sigh** There are worse problems to have.
